Working in a non-profit requires wearing MANY HATS!

It's one of my favorite things about non-profits, right after the good they do for social causes. Working at Artreach has allowed me to learn a whole lot of seemingly random skills - and I love to learn more than just about anything! Non-profits may not be high paying jobs, but the benefits are good for one's whole self - body, mind and soul.

I'm a computer geek!

I've been using Mac computers since 1987, when they were homely beige boxes! I loved the Mac from my first game of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, to learning Quickbooks, and everything in between.

  • Basecamp (Project Management) & Skype meetings allow me to work with interns anywhere in the world!
  • I love web design software - Weebly, Wix, Wordpress.
  • Garageband and Logic help with sound cues and more lively songwriting.
  • Video storytelling is easy with iMovie.
  • Quickbooks tells me where the money goes.
  • Scrivener helps me organize book chapters, my songwriting library, scriptwriting and poetry.
  • And there's the usual stuff, too - Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Pages, Numbers, Keynote

Non-Profit Management

Because Artreach is both a Mental Health agency and an Arts agency, I've learned to navigate the waters of very different funders, and I wear many hats.

  • Accounting/Bookkeeping, enough to make our annual audit a breeze.
  • Payroll processing (ADP, Paychex)
  • Managing insurances for performing venues
  • Managing health insurances for employees
  • Management of staff
  • Working with a Board of Directors, hosting Board meetings
  • Producing theater events
  • Donor Management (using Artful.ly)
  • Communications - E-mail blasts (MailChimp, Constant Contact), Social Media
  • Press release writing/media distribution
  • Keeping data on client services in a HIPPA compliant manner
  • Working with a regional network of mental health managers to

Creative/Performing Arts

At Artreach, the goal is growth - personal and creative. People stick around for 5, 10, 20 years. We need to  raise the bar on occasion, so I'm constantly working on skills.
